Yes, I know. I used the word "epic" way too much in this blog and in the vlog. What can I say? I'll use a word as much as I can to describe something so awesome in a more subdued way hence the word "epic".
I don't think any other place in this country compares to the brunch options that are available in New York City. Yes, you can go somewhere where there's an awesome buffet - The Queen Mary in Long Beach, CA comes to mind or the buffet at the Turtle Bay Resort Hotel on Oahu in Hawaii. But, all those offerings pale in comparison to the choices that are available to you in New York City. From expensive hotel buffets to restaurants that have become brunch institutions, brunching in the Big Apple is an experience all its own and one of the best places to dine in is The Smith.
The Smith has multiple locations in the city and, although the menu is pretty much the same, the locations themselves have a character all their own. This is because New York City neighborhoods have their own particular character so the crowd uptown may be a bit different than the crowd downtown and so on. With a different crowd you will obviously get a different vibe but, when you get together for brunch, that vibe is always good.
Maybe it's the alcohol? In my opinion and I also state this in the video, the food is secondary to the alcohol at a New York City brunch. Don't get me wrong; the food is always excellent especially at The Smith but those bartenders get really creative with those craft cocktails - no mimosas here (although it's available). So, if you ever get the chance, take it and partake in a New York City weekend brunch. You won't regret it.
But wait, there's more. After The Smith, we decided to take it across the river to Weehawken, NJ where we continued late brunching at The Chart House. This place is so worth the price of admission just for the views alone but, their food is also very good as you will see in the video and in a couple of the pictures above (shrimp and scallops and the lava cake). Since it was a continuation of brunch, my friend Marc and I decided to keep going with some more oysters and of course, more Moscow Mules.
Great vibes - what an epic day!
